WADA, ASADA and the AFL have ways to come in order to prevent doping scandals from happening. Education for both the players and the coaches is necessary in achieving these goals. Different theories can be tested to communicate the dangers of doping and how these scandals can end careers, tarnish names, and create negative images for all of those involved.
In terms of doping scandals it is important to recognize this as a global issue. Mass communication techniques should be agreed on and implemented worldwide to prevent these scandals from arising. International communication is key in achieving goals to end doping from happening in pro athletic sports considering these scandals are happening all over the world.
While the outcome for Hird is still unclear, it is clear that doping issues need to be addressed in all aspects of pro sports. International communication can help to increase awareness among players and coaches and provide the education an individual would need to make the right choice when it comes to doping. For a country that is dedicated to "playing fair" and keeping sports as a part of their culture, it is necessary that Australia uses the advantages of international and mass communication that is available today to relay their messages about the harms of doping within pro athletic sports. Australia should also set an example with the Hird scandal and urge regulations and education techniques to be implemented to prevent future doping scandals.
In my opinion, doping is only beginning to evolve and is not decreasing. I feel that doping scandals will continue to exist in the future unless successful regulations can be implemented to stop the use of drugs for athletic performance. While I do not find it to be fair if Hird is found guilty, considering he is a coach and they do not currently have laws regarding coaches, I do think that if he is found guilty new regulations should be implemented to include coaches because coaches are probably the most influential leaders to an athlete and this situation could influence athletes to start doping.
